You're coming across as flaky

Scheduling meetings is not that hard, or is it?

Recently I was approached about giving a professional talk.  I was more than happy to do so - public speaking helps me to get the word out about the benefits of good mental health care.  Then, the person requesting my talk 'asked' for different times for me to appear - three times - stating that the original dates they offered "wouldn't work" because of their schedule.  When dealing with others, be considerate of their time - in particular do not inconvenience them just because you are disorganized.  When I pushed back and asked for clearer timelines, etc, the requestor canceled my talk - I hurt their feelings with my assertiveness.  They probably did me a favor in canceling the presentation.

When you schedule a doctor's appointment, a time to take your car in for servicing, dinner with friends or family, a playdate for your kids, etc, have your ducks in a row.  When you present yourself as organized in making a request of others, you are showing respect.
